optoXLer® optical fiber AES/EBU audio system
General description
The optoXLer® optical fiber interface can be used to
connect audio equipment with a modified 3 pole interface
in compliance with AES3-1992. Data transmission is proto-
col transparent using light impulses. After coupling into one
end of the fibers of the optical fiber cable the impulses are
transmitted to the other end virtually without loss thanks
to total reflection.
The advantages are:
Large range
Small size
Small cable size
No cross-talk
Galvanic separation between sender and receiver
Noise immunity towards electromagnetic influences
Coupling into the optical fiber cable (can be disconnected
for service purposes) takes place within the break protec-
tion sleeve of the XLR connector using conventional plugs
of type FSMA. The electronics required for electro-optical
signal transformation are integrated in the plug housing.
Analogously to an electrical connection, the XLR female
socket contains the optical sender and the XLR pin plug
contains the optical receiver. The optoXLer®-connector is
available for data speeds between 0,1 and 5 MBit and bet-
ween 0,1 and 10 MBit.
The maximum transmission distance is two kilometres for
the versions with a wavelength of 850 nm.
The different device designs can be recognized by their
coloured coding rings.
